The IC687BEM713B module’s dedicated processor greatly expands the number and types of third-party devices and systems that Ovation controllers can support, as well as the increasingly complex data they provide. The module offloads all communication protocol processing previously handled by the controller, and also provides faster access to data from these devices and more efficient integration of information into Ovation systems. With the Ethernet Link Controller installed, organisations can add new communication protocols at any time without having to upgrade their Ovation system. When adding protocols, users receive communications software and protocol-specific configuration tools from Ovation’s suite of standard engineering tools.

The IC687BEM713B both support a variety of protocols and physical communication layers, including dial-up, leased line and wireless. With this module, data exchanged with other devices can be easily applied to Ovation control schemes and displayed graphically. The module’s native processing power and memory make it ideal for protocol processing applications such as interfacing with turbine vibration systems, burner management and safety systems, SCADA systems, PLCs, electrical relays, process analysers, and many other devices that support Ethernet communications. Application protocol packages can be loaded onto Ethernet Link Controller I/O modules, enabling Emerson to extend its PlantWeb digital architecture and Ovation system beyond traditional plant boundaries.
