The 3BHB006716R0217 supports the use of standard, enhanced, and custom fieldbus block types to take full advantage of the algorithmic capabilities provided by the device vendor. Configuring control algorithms directly into the field device improves loop performance by eliminating transfer time for data exchange between the field device and the host control system. Customers can choose to use function blocks in the field device, the DCS, or both, providing greater flexibility and efficiency in many control strategies. The Fieldbus Foundation’s Host Registration Program tests the host’s ability to support standard function blocks and functions in device descriptions and function files.

Benefits:
Reduce engineering time with custom and generic engineering templates that can be nested in multiple layers. Function block flexibility may be included in device templates, device-specific applications, or function block tool sets for more generalized mixing and matching.
Faster response to operator changes by caching all standard parameters in the I/A Series control processor. This allows instant readout to DCS applications such as HMIs or historical databases. Dynamic values are read into the processor every 10 seconds and written to the operator change command as they are changed.
