The 3500/92 enables limited response with a performance-optimised core. This preemptive multi-threaded core can run a large number of applications (e.g., 32,000 processes) simultaneously, which is key to increased functionality, and the 3500/92 is a DIN-rail mounted dc-dc converter, ±10VDC, ±5VDC isolated power supply for eliminating ground loops and solving isolation problems when interfacing with PLC analogue I/O modules. The design features allow it to handle many types of configuration applications and problems. Solid state and standard hard drive options are available, including a maintenance-free, 8 GB bootable, compact flash or standard 6 GB hard drive, 2 or 4 expandable PCI slots for plug-and-play functionality, and 2 independent Ethernet ports.

The 3500/92 provides early fault detection warnings.The RAS monitors PC operation and performance such as voltages, fan speeds, internal temperatures, touch screen, backlight and hard drive failures. Instant notifications can be generated visually, audibly, on-screen and remotely, or digitally output to the PLC for automatic switching of the PLC to a safe operating mode. Hot-swappable hard discs increase reliability and are ideal for quick on-site replacement and ensure that the production line stays up and running. RAID backup with soft mirroring provides redundant data storage and ensures data is securely recorded and stored in the array.
