The module offers greater flexibility and performance by using a 32-bit microcontroller with more memory (RAM and ROM). The fieldbus controller functionality is implemented in software, which reduces the module’s power consumption (self-contained) by about 25% compared to the FBK-2 solution. In addition, commModule PD enables automated assembly (SMD, Surface Mount Device), which significantly reduces manufacturing and handling costs. Complex development projects previously required can be replaced by simple and fast implementation. With the integration of the commModule PD, the bus physics is ready for the connection of Foundation Fieldbus H1 and PROFIBUS PA.
