The 1771-IR’s integrated protection know-how functions (e.g. against machine cloning) help prevent unauthorised access and modifications. The copy protection uses Simatic memory cards in which the individual blocks are associated with the serial number of the original memory card. This should ensure that the programme can only be run via the configured memory card and therefore cannot be copied. Access protection solves the problem of unauthorised configuration changes. For this purpose, separate rights can be assigned to different user groups via the authorisation phase. Special mechanisms are designed to identify modified engineering data – for example, to protect the data transferred to the controller from unauthorised manipulation.
