The UNITROL 1010 has a built-in WEB interface that enables device setup via the Web, and the M340-WC does not require the installation of any other software (no peripheral drivers are needed). It can also be managed via ACKSYS NDM (ACKSYS Network Device Manager) and SNMP. The Simatic S7-1511C with 32 digital IO ports is 85 mm wide, while the Simatic S7-1512C with 64 digital IO connections is 110 mm wide. Both models can be extended with signal modules to include additional connections if required. Key technical functions such as metering, measurement, and positioning are integrated into the hardware. These controllers are primarily suitable for compact designs, e.g. for series production machines.

The UNITROL 1010 is integrated in the single-slot format housing of the M340 module with a 2 dBi detachable antenna (RSMA connector) and has a coverage range (LOS) of 300 m, up to 5 Km with a high-gain directional antenna. the M340-WC is powered by +24 VDC on the M340 backplane and is limited to a power consumption of 3.5 W; furthermore, the module can be hot-swapped during operation to simplify maintenance. The LEDs can monitor LAN/WLAN activity and also indicate the quality of the radio link for optimal results when installing the unit. The unit uses a built-in switch to provide three Ethernet 10/100 ports on three RJ45 connectors.
