The SCXI-1324 modules (IO-D16A3-TO16, IOD16A3-RO16) are equipped with removable plug-in I/O connectors and can be expanded up to 8 times using Unitronics’ EX-A1 expansion adapters, or used with regular Unitronics I/O modules. However, the XL-EX modules (EX-D16A3-TO16, EX-D16A3-RO8) offer a new concept – without the need for an EX-A1 expansion adapter.The XL-EX module, which also comes with a removable plug-in I/O connector, integrates the EX-A1 adapter and can be used instead. It is a built-in I/O expansion adapter. As a first link to a PLC, up to 7 XL-IO or conventional I/O modules can be connected.

For applications such as data centre infrastructure management (DCIM), warehouse and office security, and remote condition monitoring – applications that require many real-world signals to be moved into local or cloud-based software – I/O integration often requires multiple components and specialist skills. Electrical and instrumentation engineers need to specify the various field I/O modules and design, install and connect the appropriate I/O cabinets. Control engineers need to program PLCs for signal processing and data collection. Network and software engineers then configure the communication gateways and servers that ultimately transmit the data to the consumer.
