The IOP331 adds separate power supplies and capacitor banks with fixed ratings, which often means they may be too large for the application in question. The drive’s control electronics can draw power from the main AC-DC supply or from a 24 VDC connection system on the front panel. The use of a 24 VDC power supply ensures that control and communications are maintained when the system is used in a safety shutdown (mains disconnected) application. Configuration flexibility was always at the heart of the design requirements. Each drive contains a general purpose encoder input (incremental encoder, EnDat, SSI, sine and cosine, multiturn and singleturn) and built-in I/O (three digital inputs, two digital outputs, a +/-10V analogue input, brake control outputs, and CANopen and USB ports).

The IOP331 allows the user to precisely configure the drive’s local properties and/or provide an upgrade path. The choice of expansion options includes analogue and digital I/O, resolver feedback, encoder feedback and fieldbus interfaces (including Profibus, Modbus and Devicenet.) The CANopen interface and fieldbus expansion options provide the flexibility to use the drive as a gateway for interfacing with other machine control systems (e.g. PLCs). Another unique extension option for the drive is a plug-in machine controller compatible with Baldor’s Mint motion language. This option allows the MotiFlex e100 to be used as a stand-alone ‘smart drive’, providing a distributed motion solution that can significantly reduce hardware costs.
